Since its launch over 20 years ago, Art Miami has become an important hub of creative expression in the art scene. It now represents one of the most important weeks for contemporary art in the United States and an ideal location for showcasing avant-garde creations of emerging and established artists around the world.
This year at CONTEXT Art Miami, held from December 6 to 10, where the world’s most cutting-edge projects are displayed, the spotlight shines on the American artist Allison Harrell, whose light sculptures and installations extend beyond traditional boundaries to offer an interactive and introspective experience.
Born in Knoxville, Tennessee, and currently living and working in Brooklyn, New York,
Harrell brings a rich tapestry of influences and themes to her art, ranging from quantum physics and neuroscience to ancient aesthetics and storytelling. Using a variety of media, such as sculpture, painting, and new media, Harrell’s practice relies on multidimensionality and meditative visualization, redefining the relationship between the art and the beholder. Her use of light, for example, influences the environment, which in turn affects the viewer and the perception of the work, enhancing it and broadening the spiritual aspect.
Teaming up with Alessandro Berni Gallery at booth C22, Allison Harrell will present at CONTEXT two visionary pieces, “A, B, C” and “I PROMISE NOT TO LOOK THE OTHER WAY,” where attendees will be fascinated by the use of light and reflection as tools for raising social awareness and fostering new viewpoints. The first piece, “A, B, C” is an illuminated work that represents letter blocks. It symbolizes the merging of ideas, one letter and one word at a time. The piece is a tribute to the power of language and decision-making, offering various perspectives and interpretations, and reflecting the energetic blending of ideas.
The second piece, “I PROMISE NOT TO LOOK THE OTHER WAY,” reflects upon the message of accountability, urging viewers to confront themselves and their reflections in the near mirror-polished aluminium. Through this piece, the artist aims to underscore the significance and consequences of our choices, shaping a collective consciousness that discourages toxic behaviours, isolation, repeated perpetration, and untreated ailments.
Allison Harrell’s presence and participation in Art Miami combine her artistic vision with the spirit of innovation of the fair, giving visitors a unique chance to engage and interact with art that traverses boundaries, reshapes perspectives and shifts points of view.
